From the start, Dennis designed the Dominator Chassis to be offered to all body builders. As a result, the major Bodybuilding companies in the UK supplied bodywork for the Dominator Chassis. These were produced as follows:

Alexander 0 402 1 403
Duple MetSec 0 40 0 40
East Lancs 8 363 0 371
Marshall 28 10 0 38

Alexander 'AD' Type

2 early Dennis Dominators were fitted with this Alexander style of body. Looking very like the Alexander 'AV' type as found on the Volvo Ailsa chassis, this was a modifed version to accomodate the Dominator Chassis.

The two Dominators fitted with this body were both involved in operational trials. EGB77T ran with Central SMT as its D1 and was tested with the Scottish Bus Group, while XBF700S, pictured right, ran with Potteries as its 700 and was tested with the National Bus Company.

XBF700S was built on the 7th Dennis Dominator chassis made.

Alexander 'RH' Type

Alexander produced 320 RH type bodies. One was modified as a trolleybus (see below) and not included in this count.

The RH was an R type Highbridge body. These are identified by the full height upper and lower deck windows. A quick way to spot this is to notice the Upper deck side windows drops below the level of the upper deck front. Unlike the RL below.

This example is South Yorkshire PTE 2243 (SDT243Y), which is now preserved, and was delivered in October 1982

SDT243Y was built on the 442nd Dennis Dominator chassis made.

Alexander 'RL' Type

Alexander produced 80 RL type bodies.

The RL was an R type Lowbridge body. These are identified by the shallow upper and lower deck windows. A quick way to spot this is to notice the Upper deck side windows stops short of the level of the upper deck front. Unlike the RH above.

This example is Clydeside 156 (C156FDS), which was fitted with coach seats and delivered in August 1985.

C156FDS was built on the 747th Dennis Dominator chassis made.

East Lancs To Alexander R Style!

When is an Alexander bodied bus not an Alexander bodied bus? Answer.. When it is built by East Lancs. B85 MRY is actually an East Lancs bodied bus built to Alexander style. South Yorkshire PTE also received a batch of these 'clones'.

B85MRY was delivered to Leicester in November 1984 as it's 85.

B85MRY was built on the 654th Dennis Dominator chassis made.
