"D23 Arrives At Bridgeton"

At the end of February, an application was submitted to the GVVT for storage, and a deal was struck with the owner to obtain the vehicle should the application be successful. D23 was formally approved into the GVVT on the evening of Tuesday 17th April, and immediately a recovery plan was put into place, involving amongst other things, obtaining quotes from various towing firms in regards to moving the vehicle from Coatbridge to Bridgeton. Finally, the tow was organised, laid up garage insurance obtained and the day was set as today for D23 to pass into preservation.

In the space of two months, the thought of owning a bus with the view to restoring it had passed from a dream to reality!

As can been seen from the photographs, the owner had kindly protected the vehicle from the previously smashed window with polythene.

Many thanks to everyone who had helped me and provided all the inspiration needed to get to this stage! And particular thanks to those at Arthur's Coaches in Coatbridge for being most helpful and generous in making this possible, as well as Dunsmore Recovery for safely towing D23 to her new home.

The first job immediately was to fit the seats recovered from the Ailsa into D23 for a "quick immediate" internal makeover. Which is where I discovered the first problem. The seats were too small to fit in the seat frames of the Dominator! The seats that were obtained, fit every other 'R' type body in Bridgeton, except D23.... On first thinking D23 has had its seat frames replaced at some stage, this theory was eliminated by the fact that there are original moquette seats present in the bus on the wider frame, and sister D22 also has wider frames...
