"Recovering Seats"

A visit to Bridgeton Bus Garage today revealed a trip was about to take place to End Of Life Vehicles, a vehicle dismantler based in Dalmarnock, Glasgow. I went along with some of the members of the Glasgow Vintage Vehicle Trust to get a feel for what to expect in the future.

What I was not expecting was a vehicle which had just arrived which would still have seats of the moquette required to replace the non-standard seats currently fitted in D23.

Although I had not yet obtained the bus, or indeed managed to secure a place at the Glasgow Vintage Vehicle Trust, it was suggested that I go ahead and start accumulating bits and pieces, so I would be ready if everything went to plan.

The donor vehicle in question was Volvo Ailsa Mk3 \ Alexander AV bodied OSC61V, which begain life with Fife Scottish as FRA61 and ended its days with JD Travel in Airdrie.

Many thanks to Graham at End Of Life Vehicles for the items acquired off the vehicle.

The condition of some of the seats meant that they were un-useable as replacement seats, but they were still recovered, as the material could be re-used later on if any patching was requred.

After the seats were removed, it was discovered that the donor vehicle had a fully functioning destination mechanism, and it was decided to recover this as well - as the current state of the destination screen in D23 could not be verified.

A very interesting day indeed, and the first components required for the restoration of D23 were now obtained and placed aside for security. All that i needed now was the actual bus!
